The Hobart Miniature Steam Locomotive Society Inc . (HMSLS) was established in 1974 for the purpose of bringing together a small group of model engineers, living in Southern Tasmania, to foster their interest in building model locomotives.
49 years later the Society has continued with the main aim of fostering the hobby of model engineering, but on a somewhat broader base intended to cover all forms of model engineering, in addition to its original purpose of building miniature live steam locomotives.
Since 1974 our members have constructed wide variety of working models, other than miniature locomotives, powered by various forms of propulsion such as electricity, petrol and gas.
Currently we have members of the Society building and running, stationary engines, traction engines, marine engines, as well as miniature locomotives (See Images page).
In addition to running models the Society provides a friendly venue for members to chat & discuss all aspects of the hobby.
